Nirvana
Widely considered to be the greatest grunge band of the 1990s, Nirvana was fronted by the late Kurt Cobain, a brooding, melancholic creative genius who brought a tormented energy to the band’s distinctly punk sound. Cobain died by suicide in the late 1990s, which brought the band’s skyrocketing success to a grinding and tragic halt. Before Cobain’s death, the band only released a few albums, but each is an important piece of rock history, and every Nirvana release further cemented the band in pop culture.
