R.E.M.

Formed in 1980 by Michael Sipe (vocals), Mike Mills (bass), Peter Buck (guitar), and Bill Berry (drums), R.E.M. comprised a group of University of Georgia students who went on to become forerunners of the growing genre of alternative rock. Their first single, “Radio Free Europe,” came out a year after their formation, when the group members were still students.
