McCoy Tyner had been increasingly looking to Africa for inspiration on his Blue Note records of the late-60s. With 1970’s Asante he brought those influences to the fore with the swirling percussive rhythmic bed of Billy Hart & Mtume along with Buster Williams, Ted Dunbar, Andrew White & the vocals of Songai. This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe tip-on jacket.
